Shizuoka University of Art and Culture provides an educational system that assures steady progress over four years with a balance of liberal arts courses and specialized courses. Students learn to cultivate their ability to approach matters from multiple perspectives. The two faculties provide shared courses in required and elective subjects and engage in collaboration and exchange.
Shizuoka University of Art and Culture offers unique introductory education courses in which students from both faculties study together in small groups. Through this introductory education the students deepen their understanding of the University’s educational philosophy, acquire writing skills and other necessary academic skills, and develop their aesthetic sensibilities through exposure to the traditional tea ceremony, kyogen drama and other forms of traditional culture.
Students develop a foundation for becoming contributing members of society via experiential learning where they actively engage in all phases of a business project, starting with development of a concept, moving to design and preparation and finally presenting a business proposal.
In recognition of the value of internships in the private sector and public offices, Shizuoka University of Art and Culture expands education beyond the walls of the campus. The University also significantly contributes to the development of the local community through participation in community events, accepting funded research from the private sector, and through cooperation and joint activities with non-profit organizations and governmental institutions.
Small class sizes in foreign language, computer and many other subjects offer education with an emphasis on communication and dialogue between students and instructors. Small class sizes allow for careful guidance by academics for students’ most creative ideas.
The academic year is composed of two 15-week semesters that run from April to July and October to February. One of the reasons for this system is that it enables the University to accept international students whose academic year starts in the fall. This system also encourages study abroad for SUAC students to deepen their understanding of other cultures.
